Just had a disturbing experience of what turned out to be a telephone scam with scammers representing themselves as a captain and an officer of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. They had my name, address, and phone number. They sent verification from what appears to be the real sheriff dept website. They said there was a warrant out for my arrest and they suspected someone may have stolen my identity. Long story short, I used another phone to call the sheriff's department while I had them on the line and they verifed it was a scam going around. I thought I was pretty adept at recognizing a scam but they had me going for awhile until they started talking about my having to post a $5000 bond! The sheriff's department said they had received multiple calls about this particular scam. So just sharing this in case you receive a call. Scammers are getting really sophisticated!
